Don’t Install Wordpress 2.1 As Yet!

Yes you are reading that right! I have had major problems with the installation, even so far that I had to uninstall it and went back to version 2.07!

Despite some great improvements, the problem lies with the way the script is structured. For example you can have a static home page and a blog.

What is happening is that you finish up with two home pages. I spend many hours finding information on how to solve the problem, but one thing I can find out is that pages and posts are now lumped together in the MySQL database. Also categories and links are having the same structure!

So what happens is that all themes and plugins out there need to be modified to accomodate the new database structures. Of course some of the savvy webmasters can rewrite some code to fix their websites.

One thing I know is, that there will already be a new version 2.11 out in the next 10 days or so, I am sure with a zillion bugs to be sorted out.

My recommendation is to wait for a few months so that everybody has the chance to update the themes and plugins, and like me stick to the version 2.07 for now!.
