Affiliate Marketers Should Use Tag and Ping
Tagging and pinging is becoming an increasingly popular tool for internet marketers, and more and more bloggers are using this method to generate business for their affiliated marketers. It is important, however, to understand just what tagging and pinging is, and how it can be used most effectively.
When used properly, tagging and pinging strategies can help web site owners increase their search engine rankings, generate buzz for their web sites and generate sales for their affiliates.
In order to understand how to use tagging and pinging techniques with your blog, however, it is important to understand just what these terms mean. A blog is shorthand for “web log”, and it is simply an online journal or diary. This of course means that a blog is, or at least should be, updated frequently, and that is where pinging comes in.
The fact that blogs tend to be updated more frequently than static web pages tends to give them more weight when it comes to search engines, and pinging is simply a way for blog writers to let the world (and the many blog tracking services) know that there is new content available.
A ping is a program which goes out over the internet in search of a response from another computer. Bloggers use pinging to let those search engines know that content has been updated. This is the sign for the spiders to crawl the site and reindex the new content they find.
Pinging will also update the web sites that use your blog for content. This is done through something known as RSS feeds, and pinging helps those web sites to keep their content up to date.
Affiliate marketers can use pinging strategies to help get their sites indexed more frequently, much faster than they normally would be. Affiliates may set up a blog on either their main site or on a subdomain of that site. They will then post links to those pages that sell their products on the blog, sending out a ping once the links are in place.
The ping is of course the way for the site to tell the world that new content has been added, and as this new content is discovered the affiliate links will be discovered as well. It is easy to see how this strategy can result in increased sales and increased visibility for the affiliate, and it is easy to understand why the tag and ping method of marketing is so popular these days.
